I think (although I could be wrong) that Netscape and Mozilla or pretty similar (in the way that Moz is based on Netscape 4 and Netscape 7 is based on a version of Moz - Netscape is Mozilla 1.1 [I think] with added AOL stuff) and Firebird is the browser part of Mozilla with everything else removed, Thunderbird, is the standalone e-mail (from Mozilla) and Mozilla is the suite so Netscape plugins would work on Mozilla and Firebird (?)

Personally my default browser is Mozilla with IE used only for those sites that absolutely positively have to use IE (including one site I found that only needs IE to show wome wanky front-page with a menu that moves with the mouse! Copying URLs from IE and pasting into Mozilla shows the rest of the site worked fine)
