Yet another "error syncing with mpeg"

Hi list

I've done the due diligence of googling and looking on the earlier posts here, but I'm disappointed to say that I haven't found a conclusive answer yet.

I have Winamp v5.01 (x86) Dec 19, 2003 build. But if I try to listen to any of the Internet Radios, following is what happens:

1. The playlist editor displays : [ICY 200 OK] <radio URL> , for example, [ICY 200 OK] http://64.236.34.196:80/stream/1013
2. After a few seconds, this message changes to : [error syncing to mpeg] <radio URL>

Now, I understand I am behind a firewall so some of the radios may not work. However, those that serve on port 80 should work.

If I point my browser to the above url (http://64.236.34.196:80/stream/1013) I can see a page with some binary information, containing the following header:

ICY 200 OK icy-notice1:
This stream requires Winamp
icy-notice2: SHOUTcast Distributed Network Audio Server/SolarisSparc v1.9.2
icy-name: Radiostorm.com: HIP-HOP R&B icy-genre: Hip-Hop Rap RnB Urban icy-url: http://radiostorm.com icy-pub: 1 icy-metaint: 0 icy-br: 128 icy-irc: #shoutcast icy-icq: 0 icy-aim:

So apparently, it CAN go outside the firewall. So what's missing?

Any help will be appreciated.

Many Thanks
Manav

Is it a corporate firewall, or do you have any control over it? (configuration-wise)

Yes, your browser "can go outside the firewall", but this doesn't mean that Winamp can, eg. if the corporate firewall is configured to block internet access for Winamp...

However, you'd normally get a different error, eg. error connecting / could not connect, not the dreaded: error syncing to mpeg

Do you use a proxy?
And if so, is it configured properly in Winamp -> Prefs -> General Preferences?
Naturally, the correct Connection Type also needs to be selected here.

And you're not using any 3rd-party MP3 Decoder (ie. input plugin) such as in_mp3pro, in_mad, etc.?

It indeed is a corporate firewall, and I have absolutely no control over it

That's what I'd expect.

No I don't.

Thanks, but yes, I did look for a such a thing upfront, but no luck

Not at all. To be honest, this is the first time I heard about these decoders, and its given me something new to explore :-)

I am not sure what's going wrong...

OK, I have resolved the issue. I dont know what really was happening - maybe there is a proxy being used that I didn't know of (certainly there was and is, none configured in the Internet Explorer settings), but anyway, the moment I added this proxy settings it worked for me.

Since, my explorer works without this proxy setting - which confuses me even more!

But hey, I can listen to the radio now. Though I wonder how winamp was able to retrieve the radio list and report successful connection to the radio that I was trying to connect to, but not play anything!

Thanks for your help!
