Underruns?

Not sure if it's called underruns, but anyway:

On any stream, the sound cuts off every 7 seconds or so, then starts back up normally. This didn't happen on Winamp 2 or 3, just 5.

Any advice?

buffer problems maybe? Do you have sufficient bandwidth to handle the stream, also does lowering your bitrate help?

Yeah, I have enough bandwidth. As I said, the other Winamp's worked fine.

Weird.

Do the symptoms appear for every stream?

Try my stream and see if the problem persists.

Yes, its for every stream and all bitrates even as low as 16kbps.

Ahh, got it.

I was using a different decoder - the MAD one - and not the deffault Nullsoft one. Works perfectly now.

which station are you listening too? miztinsel. Have you tried festerheads or are you listening to something like Digitally Imported or Radiostorm. They use a ultravox server which can cause problems with winamp if the steps aren't taken correctly. However if this is occuring on EVERY stream check your output properties, try playing a mp3 song on your hardrive and see if it persists.

Same problem here.

I have been listening to streams from Bassdrive, DigitallyImported, etc. and I never had a problem with WA3. Now, with WA5, I get constant buffer underruns. I'm on DSL running at about 1.3. My computer runs at about 2% CPU usage with winamp/shoutcast playing. I cranked up the buffer all the way up to 256kb and it only delays the underrun by a few minutes.

I have been connected to Fester's stream for about 10 min and no underruns. Now I'm just confused as to what the problem could be. Any help here?

Try disabling title streaming.

Winamp
-> Ctrl+p
-> Plug-ins
-> Input
-> Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder
-> Configure
-> Streaming tab
-> Uncheck 'Enable SHOUTcast title support'.

The above are Winamp 2.x instructions. May differ slightly in Winamp 5.x

Hmm... I thought it was working, but I'm still getting the underruns. It seems like disabling the title support helped a lot, but it didnt fix it entirely.

Any other suggestions?
