space in artist ID tag screws up sorting

This happens on both of my computers running the current version of winamp5, it may not be a bug but it annoying as hell- If there is a space before the artist in the ID tag, for example " beatles" instead of "beatles" that song will be at the top of the playlist above everything else. I understand that spaces and underscores come first when sorting but i have several hundred mp3's with the space in the artist and my playlist is way out of whack. If this is not a bug, is there anything i can do??

Yes, remove the space.

ml -> top left pane -> select artist -> bottom pane -> select all tracks -> right click -> edit selected items -> edit 'artist' field.
