It would have been nice if this thread had some discription of genres. Some people might like to check some stuff out.

Kreator - Coma of Souls / Endorama
Terrorizer - World Downfall
Slayer - Haunting the Chapel

...all I can think of for now....

Oh yea.. LOL @ whoever said Aerosmith, Nickelback and Rush is obscure! Must be living in a coconut.
hehe I rembember most of these some a little after my time Choas AD and stuff.

*Shudder* though at Kreator. A truely average/bad Thrash band.

Surely Testimony of the ancients (I think it was called that at the time when I had a pre-release of this it was there last album but they obviously reformed) is a better album then Consuming Impulse (there debut). A lovely album that was/is.

A lot of teh Morrisound stuff was interesting. (A studio in TAmpa Florida where 95% of all death metal at the time was recorded. Tom Morris I think was teh producer...ummh this is all from memory not followed teh scene for 10 years)

Starting with teh early stuff like

MOrbid Angel - Altars of Madness (debut)
Entombed - Clandestine (edges out ther debut Left HAnd PAth ( I think they were called Entombed then not Nilist or whatever they were before))

Then I liked

Vaders debut cannot remember the name but on Earache as the above 22.

ANd that was about the last I bought at the time.

for darker stuff try
PAradise LOst - Gothic (2nd Album)
Autopsy - Mental Funeral (2nd album)
Anethemas debut (forgot name)

hahah takes me back.....
---------------

ABout downbeat stuff

Walkner MOstl - Blueish (ep)
dZihan & Kamien - Freaks & Icons
Four TEt - Rounds
Underwolves - Under Your Sky

Senor Coconut - El Baile Aleman

From AMG - "For an absurdly comic idea, Señor Coconut proved to have more than a single note at their — or perhaps his — disposal, managing two albums and even planning a U.S. tour. German DJ and producer Uwe Schmidt(aka Atom Heart) had released dance music in his homeland under a number of different aliases during the first half of the 1990s. But he'd become bored with the European music scene and in 1996 transferred his base of operations to Chile in order to begin exploring the possibilities of Latin music, which was, he said, "a pretty much undiscovered planet to me. It unveils lots of interesting musical worlds to me." Adopting the ridiculous Señor Coconut moniker, he first cooked up El Gran Baile, a distinctly Latin-flavored groove-a-thon, and did a remix for former Deee-Liteturntablist Towa Tei. Then he began to ponder the possibilities of a German-Latin fusion, and found his material in the unlikeliest of places — the greatest hits of man-machine band Kraftwerk, best-known for their very inhuman, unemotional approach to music — the very opposite of Latin passion. The result was El Baile Alemán. Although credited to Señor Coconut y Su Conjunto, it was purely the work of Schmidtand three vocalists, who took the Kraftwerkmachine ideal and tipped it on its head, putting in programmed cumbia, merengue, and salsa rhythms to flavor the Teutonic stew. Released as a one-off in 2000, it received a fair amount of critical acclaim in the U.S., more than Schmidthad received for any of his other work. In March 2001, Señor Coconut — now a real eight-piece band — was set to undertake a short headlining tour in North America, but visa problems for some of the Chilean musicians forced a cancellation."

Magnificent album.

It's been said that I could start an arguement in an empty room.....I see no reason to disbelieve this.

ok.. heres a few that you should all try to find.

The Prayer Boat - Polichinelle
A bit like buckley, a bit like sigur ros, but very unique. An amazingly soothing voice, incredible songs.. the works.

Ours - Distorted Lullabies
Well, the main problem is that they can easily be looked at as jeff buckley rip offs, but they definatly are worthy of the comparison. And in itself, its a really really nice albumn.

Sparklehorse - Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot
Well, maybe not so obscure a band, but the albumn is often discarded by most people. Its my fav of theirs. Its so pure and totaly unique. Nothing i have ever come across has ever seemed similar to the aesthetic that this albumn achieves. You can sum it up in the word "horsie"

dEUS - In a bare under the sea
My fav indy albumn ever.

Dragon ash - Buzz Songs
Jap band. The name says it all.

Modest mouse - The moon and antarctica
Again, not really that obscure now. But if you havnt got into modest mouse yet, you really should. Anyone will like this band because they are so unique. It reminds me of the presidents in that both styles are just plain weird and dont seem to have any statment to make.. they just rock.

the refused - the shape of punk to come
RATM + the hives + the clash + hardcore superstar + international noise conspiracy = ???

..

jeezz.. i should stop there i think.

oh wait... heres some more great ones:

red house painters - red house painters
the divine comedy - regeneration
Tim buckley - hello and goodbye
elliott smith - figure 8

ok thats all..
for real

Just a few then sidd.
A little known scottish band - Spirea X. Their 1992 debut 'Fireblade Skies' was virtually ignored on release. A shame, it's a great album (in the C86 vein).

Well there you go zootm. Just when you thought your collection was complete. One of the few Scottish guitar bands that didn't sweep the country.

Soul Family Sensation were a good band circa '91. A vibrant electric sound, great vocalist, probably unique at the time. I must get hold of their album.

Any Millencolin album. They're a Swedish punk band that's been around for 10 years. They're not largely known in the US, although they've gotten their plug on the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 soundtrack and have toured here quite a few times.

The Godz. Don't know the name of any of their albums, but I've got one of them on order from Amazon. It's been delayed now, but it's worth my wait. But they've from the mid-70's to early-80's era, and they're damn good for a heavy metal band from that time too...

You'd better take a listen to them, especially "Recorded Live" or other live rec's. Alvin Lee is an underestimated guitarist...

A Classical Album I have been heavily promoting is the Fabio Biondi/Europa Galante version of "Vivaldi's The Four Seasons". Now I know everyone knows the tune, but it is quite original interpretation- I highly reccomend it to rock and or roll fans, as the instrumentation- while classical, owes more to a modern rock and or roll sensibility.

Amazon Link (listen to the samples, as you won't find this with file sharing)

Yay! I have it!
My grandpa gave it to me and i use it when at night when i put a sleeptimer on in Winamp and fall asleep. (I've been soooo danm harmonic since I started to fall asleep with classical music!)

I know nothing about classical music but it indeed sounds better than some of the 5€/$ compilations by Naxos that I also own.
(Although Naxos is allways quite good - and cheap...)

the problem is that we moved 4 times in 5 years, so much of our things are still in boxes up the attick.
guess that all my albums are there somewhere, but no time for a search there's always something else to do. maybe when the bathroom is done I might have some time to do a search

Stabbing Westward - Darkest Days
Hole - Celebrity Skin
Stabbing Westward is the shinizzel. Every one of their CD's kicks ass, though I tend to listen to their last one more because it's more standard rock, less electronics in it.

PAradise LOst - Gothic
Wohoo! Someone else who listens to Paradise Lost. No one else I talk to really knows about them.

And as of my contribution. Luxx - Luxx. Good Alternative Rock/Metal chick band that is kinda like Poe or PJ Harvey with more instruments and a rock bent.
