Holocaust Memorial Day
Today is officially Holocaust Memorial Day (27th January). Its a day to reflect on all those who have perished or been affected by the Holocaust of World War II or indeed other genocidal events in more recent history.
Sections of peoples who were murdered by the Nazis; Jews - 6,000,000 approx Gypsies - 200,000 approx Trade Unionists - unknown Blacks - unknown Slavs - 2,000,000 - approx Mentally & physically handicapped - unknown Homosexuals - 15,000 approx The Victims Holocaust Memorial Day website The Nizkor Project ""They came for the Communists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Catholic. Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak out for me." Pastor Martin Niemoller We must remember, so that we can stop this happening again. It's been said that I could start an arguement in an empty room.....I see no reason to disbelieve this. |
