Detailed IP & firewall directions

Hey Guys,
I spent the whole day looking for a solution to

<02/01/03@16:23:12> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave error (nak)
<02/01/03@16:23:12> [yp_add] yp.shoutcast.com gave extended error (Cannot see your station/computer (IP: 125.352.27.2:8000) from the Internet, disable Internet Sharing/NAT/firewall/ISP cache (Connection refused))

...but none of the threads worked for me.

I know that nobody is paid here and everyone is willing to cooperate telling what they know, but please understand that some of us do not know a thing about IPs, firewall or ICS, you only ask if we have a router or a firewall, but, how can we know that? Personally I've tried checking in my Control Panel but I didn't find a thing. I followed all the instructions in multiple threads with no success. I hope that my case could be useful to some of you if a moderator or an experienced broadcaster can give me a piece of advice.

Thanks in advance.

I'm working on a Windows 98 PC, I don't share my connection with any other computer, I have a cable connection and I don't use or run any firewall programs like McAfee Antivirus or such (not as far as I know: how could I know that?). When I check my IP address runing 'winipcfg' there are two options:

1. PPP Adapter: IP address 0.0.0.0
2. 100/10Mbps Fast Ethernet PCI-Bus Adapter: IP 125.352.27.2

and when I check it on the website http://www.showmyip.com/
it displays a different one.

When I check the status of my Cable-modem I get a different IP address from the others

When I run the SHOUTcast plugin in Winamp I enter the one that I got running 'winipcfg' (this was the only one that worked properly) but as I am supposely broadcasting the sc_serv.exe program displays the NAK error above.

1. Is the ICS tool (I don't know what the hell this is for, despite I read a lot about it) required even for computers that don't share their connections?

2. How do I get a port number that could work for me?

Ok, so here is the problem of many of us and we cannot get a lot of the terms that you use. Could you please be patient and give a detailed explanation to solve this problem?

Thanks again.

Regards.

125.352.27.2 is not a valid ip.

1. No

2. Try various ones. Are you getting the FATAL ERROR port in use?
Check out the DNASs sc_serv.ini/conf configuration file for the section (default shown below):
code:
; PortBase. This is the IP port number your server will run on. The
; value, and the value + 1 must be available. If you get a fatal error when
; the DNAS is setting up a socket on startup, make sure nothing else on the
; machine is running on the same port (telnet localhost portnumber -- if you
; get connection refused then you're clear to use that port). Ports < 1024
; may require root privledges on *nix machines. The default port is 8000.
PortBase=8000

I'm not sure in Windows 98 has a "netstat" (sans quotes) command. If it does, try "netstat /a" (sans quotes) to list ports in use.

Q: I know that nobody is paid here and everyone is willing to cooperate telling what they know, but please understand that some of us do not know a thing about IPs, firewall or ICS, you only ask if we have a router or a firewall, but, how can we know that?
A: Please read some polite advice.

Q: Could you please be patient and give a detailed explanation to solve this problem?
A: You'll find this is one of the best forums around for getting free technical support. However, you're going to be hard-pressed to find someone here to do the work for you.

If you've got the time and aren't afraid of reading and learning, then we've got the folks to help.

Does your ISP block ports?

Check out http://www.radiotoolbox.com/cantheygetin and see if the reported information there helps.

Try setting the DNASs YPort to 666.
Check out the DNASs sc_serv.ini/conf configuration file for the section (default shown below):
code:
; Yport, port to connect to yp.shoutcast.com on. For people behind caching
; webproxies, change this to the alternate port (666 is what it might be,
; check www.shoutcast.com if you have problems). Otherwise, leave this at 80.
; We're actively working on re-opening port 666, but as of release the only
; working port is port 80.
Yport=80
