Relay Connection

Ok, here's what I have.. I am streaming live audio from Server "A". This is on a cable modem that can only handle 2 connections to it. Therefore, I relay the audio to Server "B" which is on a DSL line and can handle about 10 users. I also have Server "C" set up to relay Server "A" on another DSL for overflow.

Server "A" is running 24/7. Server "B" only runs roughly from 10am to 7pm or so. Server "C" runs 24/7.

What I would like to do, is if Server "C" has 0 connections to it, it will drop the connection to Server "A". Basically, the only way Server "C" will connect to the source is if there is a demand. Why keep that link up 24/7 if noone is listening?

Is this possible?

The DNAS is quite passive. It doesn't care whether anything is connected to it (source or listeners).

You'll need to craft a script (or other tool) that periodically checks DNAS "C" for connections. If none, then kill the DNAS.

Another script will need to check the other DNASs and if full, start DNAS "C" back up.

The DNAS is designed for near/instant listener connections. Appllying the above scripts may lenghten (or even timeout) listeners connection.
I don't recommend the above.

Why don't you have DNAS "C" be the sole relay to DNAS "A" and when DNAS "B" is up it relays DNAS "C".

Because Relay "A" is the live source, if "B" were to relay "C", you add in another slight bit of delay. It's nothing really, really critical, just would be nice to have. If the bandwidth doesn't need to be used, just shut down until it does.

I see what you mean by the scripts, and I may kick it around a little bit.. Just didn't know if there was an easier way to do it.

Thanks for the help, tho.

Neither the Internet nor SHOUTcast are real-time.

SHOUTcast "pushes" data.
If you want to "pull" data only when necessary, try checking out Windows Media Server.
