Media Library - Bug Breeding...
Hi y'all...
Just signed up in order to help troubleshoot the latest and greatest app in the world: 5.02. However, I have noticed a glitch in the Media Player. If you try to scan an mp3 folder, some songs are improperly info tagged. Ther metadata in the file itself is unharmed, however it is incorrect in the media library. Judging from what I see - the hyphen and the () brackets are the issue. Depending on how a file name (not the ID3 tags) is formed with brackets or dashes - will make app id a songs title or artist name incorrectly... Example in attached picture: I think the fix is simple: allow the media library information to be populated only by the ID3 info and never allow it to try to group/tag the music by contents within the file name itself. That is too hard as there are so many naming convenetions that folks use...IMHO. /Sky |

another example
I might add that this problem is exactly the same and there is validation of the file name and Winamp trying to pull the artist name and title and album from the filename only...despite that the tags are probably perfect:

Just read through that link you posted, but the guy never replied...
Maybe you can answer the same questions I asked rscot? Depending on your settings in: Prefs > Media Library > Media Importing tab Winamp will only use path\filename ro guess the metadata if there are no tags, or if some of the relevant tags are missing. Are all your files properly tagged before importing them into the library? If so, then make sure of the following settings: Checkmark: Read file metadata tags on import Select: when "all" metadata not found (not "any") Selecting one of the 3 detection methods is then entirely up to you (smart, simple, no guessing). Personally, I choose "no guessing". A hyphen in the filename is seen as a field separator by the "smart detect" feature. But only if this feature is enabled, and if the tags are missing. |

I wish u were right.,..
I tried it and ...NOPE.
I am sure that the issue is that any file with brackets or hyphens (and other symbols maybe...don't know) is causing the ML to auto guess the meta info regardless of whether or not the ID3 tags are actually there. Have a look in the attachment: You can see the file has all the info, and my settings for the import (I chose no guessing but you cannot see that as the pic is a bit cut off on the bottom). Finally you see how ML listed the track despite all of the settings... |

I thought I should add..
A couple of things:
1) This app is still the single best thing I have ever seen or used on a PC. It has so much value I cannot begin to tell you... 2)I am writing all this 'cause I genuinely want to see it better... 3) All my songs get tagged before they are moved into my 'MY MUSIC' folder. I use Tag and Rename as the tool...and to this point there has never been any issue (with the 5 series Winamp) until now... 4) I wish I could write code and fix this for ya... THX for the attention and all that!! /sky |
