Music skips when connecting to Internet.
I'm using Winamp 5.02. When I connect to the Internet (dial-up) the song that's playing skips two or three times, as though Winamp is trying to connect to some site itself. I thought I'd disabled all Internet features under Preferences: I chose "Not connected to Internet", and unchecked "Check for new versions at startup" and "Allow Winamp to report anonymous usage statistics". Is there something I missed?
I could of course pause or stop the song when connecting, but that would be annoying as well. I don't recall having this problem with Winamp 3. Any help would be most appreciated. |

I'd imagine that it is just the computer using extra resources. What are your system specs?
Try increasing the buffer size go to Prefrences --> output, and click "configure". Also, make sure you have the latest Soundcard drivers and DirectX drivers (go to start--> run, and type "dxdiag"). It will tell you the DirectX version you are using. The latest is 9.0b (I think). If that doesn't work, switch to another output plugin (DirectSound or WaveOut - whichever you are not using) powered by C₈H₁₀N₄O₂ |

Uh... WinXP, 1.4MHz, 512Mb DDR, 128Mb Radeon 9200... What else. I think that's it.
Not a known issue then? It's not a huge problem, just a bit annoying. Nothing else ever slows down or skips when connecting though, so I don't know. |

Ah.
Switching output plugins didn't have any effect, and neither did increasing buffer length even up to the maximum. My DirectX is 9.0b, and my sound card drivers are the latest available.

No, my ISP doesn't have any software; I use WinXP's dialer. I want to call it Dial-Up Networking but I don't think it's called that anymore. |

I'm thinking it might be a shared IRQ with your modem. Right click on my computer, go to the Hardware tab, and click "device manager". Click the view tab and select "resources by type". If your soundcard shares a resource with your modem, right-click on it, and go to the resources tab, and you should be able to change the IRQ there (although it ^might^ cause some problems).
