Winamp as home theater audio server
Here's what I'm looking to accomplish:
Basic PC Flac playback support digital audio out stand alone machine (with at most a small LCD screen if I want to add it later) No need for video playback remote control - the more control and scrolling from the remote the better In fact, in a lot of respects this is what I want: http://www.giantdisc.com/ However I'd prefer it's based on a windows platform that I'm more familiar with. Does anyone use or know of a product that interacts with winamp (or another software package) and offers similar features? -Nick |

Hmm...thanks for the link, but the squeeze box isn't exactly what I had in mind. From a published article:
"But now the Squeezebox has the ability to convert existing OGG, AAC, and FLAC music files into MP3 on the fly with the included “LAME” software." I'm not sure that's correct or not (I think I had similar info from a avsforum discussion but I can't get to it right now) but if it is, there's no real advantage to putting my collection in FLAC format (at least for playback). I don't want to get into a "you can't tell the difference" discussion between mp3 and lossless formats, let me just say I would like to have direct playback of lossless audio into my home theater. Actually, this obstacle is what turned me away from the type of product you're recommending. If I could have found an affordable option that offered that internally I wouldn't be looking to go the software-remote control way. -Nick |
