1st. You'll need a better MP3 codec.

2nd. Broadcasting 128kbps over cable modem is almost impossible. ( 2 listeners @ 128 k = 256 kbps plus overhead for the stream... so something like 275 kbps is required. ) you'll never get a pop/click free broadcast, and you'll probably have a lot of trouble with underruns.
If you were broadcasting from something like a T1 or greater, you could reliably broadcast at 128.

56k is a pretty reasonable middle ground. it delivers a quality stream (similar to an FM broadcast) and doesn't consume your bandwidth too rapidly.

To phat_hoe: If you have ICQ, I can send the right codecs you need to broadcast at a rate of 128kb/s. My ICQ # is - 18549402

you can do 128k through a cable connect but you'll probably have 2-4 listeners max. i did it for 3 months, and had little problem on my cable connect.

I now broadcast at 56kbps and comfortably support 8 listeners. although my connect seems a bit nicer because most cable/dsl's support about 5 listeners. here's some advice from shoutclub.com ..

"(B = Available Bandwidth and K = Bitrate)

B * 0.9 / K

simply translated to Amount of Bandwidth available multiplied by 0.9 divided by the bitrate you wish to broadcast at.

Here is an example:
Let's say you are using a DSL connection and you have just as an example, 345kbps Upload available, and you want to webcast to other DSL users at 56kbps, well then you would simply use this formula and plug in the items.

345 * 0.9 = 310.5 (we have now accounted for overhead)

Now to figure out how many listeners we can have, we just divide 310.5 by the bitrate we want which is 56kbps.

310.5 / 56 = 5.544~

Now we can never have a fraction of a listener, that is like have 2.3 kids, it just isn't possible, even though statistics say it is, so we take the decimal out Note: Always Round Down

5.544~ rounded to the nearest whole number is 5

So now we know that a DSL connection with 345kbps Upload can webcast to 5 listeners at 56kbps. Pretty simple isn't it .
