AC/DC
A band member saw AC/DC on a sewing machine and figured it has something to do with power. He was right, it means 'Alternating Current / Direct Current'. The band didn't realise it was also slang for bi-sexual, which caused a few awkward moments in their early days.
I like how the person just assumes AC/DC has something to do with electricity.

They don't have one for Hoobastank...

Hoobastank found out what to name their band after coming across a gas station in Germany that was named so...

"I just want to lie in my own crusty filth, eating rancid egg sandwiches, until some unfortunate paramedic has to blow down my door to find my bloated and pasty corpse wedged between the nightstand and mattress stained with Bengay and Robitussin DM." - Greg Gutfeld on sex and seniors

My fave was always Chumbawamba - a monkey had typed it (even with the capital 'C' apparently).

I'd hire a monkey to do the same for me...

Now, I trust you implicitly Mr Chuckles, come up with my band's name....

Led Zeppelin:

Someone had told them their band would go down like a lead balloon.

Select songs:

According to the site, the person who named the band saw AC/DC on the back of a Sewing Machine and assumed it had to do with electricity - I took that to mean they didn't know what alternating/direct current were. It could have had something to do with a certain type of stich for all they knew.

There's nothing in stiching that's related to anything with electric currents as far as their specified names go, besides any electronically-powered equipment that are built for so...

How do I know? I tried looking up things that linked the two subject together, and later found A. I didn't find anything, and B. I'm a loser with no life...

ULTRAVOX
Latin for 'the greatest amount of voice'

not bad for a band that had synths as their major instrument- ( not that midge ure sings bad)

Each Thursday a new show on Celtica Radio with Darkwave music.

I always thought 'Ultravox' was a constructed word.

Latin? How interesting....
