Newbie WMA Question

I know that this will seem like a very obvious/stupid question to many of you, but for me it's been a baffling problem. As of late, I have started ripping my cds to my computer so the songs are in .mp3 format. However, when I first started ripping my cds, I was ripping them so the songs would be in .wma format. I looked at the ad for the newest Winamp download, and saw that .wma files are supported, so I downloaded it. But, whenever I try and play .wma files in Winamp, they won't work. No song length shows up, no anything... I made sure .wma was selected in the preferences section so they were supported, and still nothing... This was a problem not too long ago with a previous version of Winamp... Am I missing something completely obvious? Please help a clueless fellow out, and thanks in advance to any and all who can.

Thank you,
- Steve
