While I think the Fellowship of the Ring was a wonderful film I hated the return of the King, seeing it sweep the board was like watching Titanic (another film I hated) do the same a few years back.
Most of Fellowship felt fresh and sharp (though it went down hill a bit when Gandolf apparently died) but ROTK was long, drawn out and filled with clichéd dialog and indulgent lingering shots. It also has one of the longest and consequently most boring endings I've ever seen on film. |

I'm guessing you've never read the books then?
The ending in ROTK the novel was just as drawn out.
