Winamp or my soundcard?

Hi there,

About a week ago my winamp version 2 began playing mp3 files with a very rough noise to them. I had a play around with everything and could not sort it out. I uninstalled winamp 2 and put on the latest version of winamp5 - did not sort out the problem. I know its not the speakers as i have tried them on another machine and they are fine. Another strange thing is that through windows media player the mp3s play fine as well.

Is there a problem with my winamp - or has my soundcard gone?

I really cannot find any consistency in the problem - any help or ideas - much appreciated.

Sound card/chip, Windows OS, DirectX version?

Tried the DirectSound Output tweaks?
