"Insert a blank recordable CD..." [cannot burn]

I just registered and wanted to burn a cd but when i click burn it keeps asking for a blank recordable cd.

don't even ask, of course there is a brand new blank cd in the drive.

it's a clean install. i'm running xp pro. i don't have nero. [[yet]]
