Loud buzzing sometimes when starting non-mp3 audio
When Winamp 5.03 starts to play a track from any of these formats (with the plug in parenthesis) -
FLAC (Reference FLAC decoder v1.0beta7) musepack (.mpc Musepak plugin 0.98) Monkey's Audio (Monkey's Audio Player v3.97) WMA (Nullsoft WMA plug-in v2.00(x86)) It will unpredictably either play the track correctly or emit a loud buzzing noise. I'd say it buzzes 1/5 to 1/10 of the time. Oddly, it doesn't buzz for mp3s, for which I use the MAD plug-in 0.14.2b. I'm using the DirectSound output on an M-Audio Revolution. |

Hmm, the only potentially iffy 3rd-party plugin I see there is "Now Playing" . . . though I'm not sure, because I don't use that particular plugin.
Also not sure if having both in_mad and in_mp3 installed at the same time is a good idea, but that shouldn't bear any effect on .flac, .mpc or .ape playback. Do you have any .ogg, .midi, .wav, and/or .mod files you can test with? Are these formats also affected? (Note: these formats are supported by 1st-party Nullsoft plugins, whereas your problem formats are all supported by unsupported 3rd-party input plugins). You could also try the DirectSound Output tweaks here, and also maybe try turning the EQ off (for troubleshooting purposes). |

.ogg files are also affected.
I tried removing Now Playing but that did nothing. Eq off doesn't fix the problem either. I upgraded to Winamp 5 and got the Revolution at around the same time, which is when the problem started. I'll test onboard sound with Winamp 5 and see if it still happens. |
