Media Library Files
Alright here is the situation. I need to reformat a partition of my harddrive but i value my mp3 collection and use the Media Library to keep of # of times played and various playlist and various other wonder of the Library. I was trying to find out where Winamp stores this informaion. And if there were any ideas as a way to remove these files off the partition i am partitioning and if i could put it back after i re-install everything... Thanks in advance

Media Library information appears to be kept in binary files in:
<install directory>\Plugins\ml\*.dat/*.idx/*.vmd eg: c:\Program Files\Plugins\ml\main.dat c:\Program Files\Plugins\ml\main.idx for files in the "Local Media" section. c:\Program Files\Plugins\ml\radio.dat c:\Program Files\Plugins\ml\radio.idx c:\Program Files\Plugins\ml\radio.vmd for radio stations etc... I would guess that you could just backup the contents of the Plugins\ml directory and restore it after your reformat as long as all the drive letters/paths stay the same. Looking in the files/at the extensions: *.dat appear to be the actual information about the tracks (ie: the databases) *.idx are probably indexes *.vmd are definitions of the columns/layout of the database display |

Also media library playlists are stored as .M3U files
Example: C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins\ML\plf****.m3u where **** represents a set of numbers and letters The media library config file is gen_ml.ini stored in the plugins directory. More info on Winamp's various settings/config files... http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=158332 |
