creating a playlist via script

While scouring through the threads I found that Gonzotek wrote:

[If you have the ability to do some scripting on your website, you could create a randomly ordered m3u "on the fly"]

I just need to create a plain old .pls playlist to use in conjunction with the on demand feature of shoutcast DNAS.

MY problem is that I noticed each entry in a playlist has 3 attributes: FILE - TITLE - LENGTH

file and title no problem .. how can I determine the length so that I could write it to the playlist file?

Thanks a thousand,
Steve
