I've updated my Winamp to 2.64 and when I tried to play a file, I get an error message pop-up box that says, "DirectX 5+" not found. Is there a website that I can find it.

Wow, you don't have DirectX 5 or higher installed??? Are you running the original release of Win95, or WinNT4 maybe?
You can download the latest version of DirectX (7.0a) here: http://www.microsoft.com/directx/hom...ds/default.asp it's a little over 6MB to download. If you are running WinNT you'll be out of luck though, as NT only supports DirectX 3. Just a thought, but go into Winamp -> Options -> Preferences -> Plugins -> Output and check to see which output plugin is selected. Make sure that the WaveOUT plugin is selected, then see if your error message still appears. |

Thanks for the advice. I checked the waveout file since it wasn't chosen, and it worked!

You should download DirectX 7 (newest version) if you play games.. if you dont, it's not worth your time. DirectX is just drivers for multimedia apps to be able to communicate with multimedia hardware (sound cards, game pads, etc.).. plus it does other things. one of the few good products that ms produces.

A lot of the visualisation plugins (especially the 3D ones) require DirectX 5 or higher, so it's worth installing it if you want to use certain visualisations.
