title help

i believe i have version 5.03 (just bought it 2 days ago.) when i go to play a cd on winamp the playlist only shows "1. Artist - Track 1" and so on instead of the artist's name and track. i played the same cd in windows media player and the names and tracks were listed. i dont know what to do.

what is CDDB and is there any way to get the cd's artit and track to show on the playlist without an internet connection?

On most cd's there is no artist and track information available. That's why Winamp uses CDDB (it's a cd database where information is stored from lots of cd's). That's the only way to show artist and track information in Winamp. And yes, the first time you insert a cd and cddb needs to look up the information, you'll need an internet connection. Winamp will store the found information on your harddisk, so the second time you won't need a connection.

Some cd's do have 'cd text'. That means the information is available on the cd itself. Winamp does not support cd text...

i played the same cd in windows media player and all of the titles and artit's names showed up correctly.

Ok. As said, that might be because your cd has cdtext: maybe Windows Media Player supports it. Winamp certainly does not.

Or Windows Media Player has access to the internet, and Winamp doesn't. See in the link I posted to allow Winamp access to CDDB.

got it. didnt know i had to be connected for winamp to get the titles.
