------------------------------------------------------------
Now...,from the beggining I had ben using my xp just fine when a power failure gave me a "disk-read-error"and after that I had to format and used my xp cd just fine. well then everything is up and running smoothly except for the small detail that there is no sound.

My volume icon went crazy after next reboot flashing from mute-to not mute randomly and not a beep coming from the computer.

I used my winamp installation 2.01 full or some such to no avail the songs wouldnt play the only change would be the !>
icon of play showing but nothing else. but also no sistem sounds or anything.

I tried with drivers for my creative live! model 3840.(which were very hard to find) to no avail.

I tried tinkering with the sound output thing that was posted below and the other settings besides it and I managed for the video to play at too much speed and then when I tried to play it again it would ask me if I wanted to overwrite the video. I played with the settings further and then I would get only four seconds of play before it would stop. I played even more with it and now it plays fine some videos(witout music)but others would pause every 4 seconds of the way.

I tried with windows media player but its the same thing.

I tried changing the slot of my music card to no avail. I deleted all the music drivers for xp to reinstall them but didnt work either.

I used the adaware and search&destroy spybot suggestions below and I got rid of some spyware but only that, and I used the HackThisorsomesuch program that was suggested but didnt find the files that were causing trouble(Help32).

Right now I just downloaded the winamp5.03 full but its the same thing.

Ohh and one more thing, after I play a movie and close winamp I have to go to processes to get rid of a winamp application that uses 00 resources for it to work again.

I would be Very Grateful if you could help me out, I am a big winamp fan and I cant live witout my music and videos.

Thormakar.
P.D. Sorry for the huge post

I am rather baffled by your situation and not too sure of what to tell you. Maybe this, try the kX Project drivers. They are an alternative driver for the SB Live and Audigy card series.

Just in case, I would suggest that you keep a backup of the current sound driver. Even though it may not work now, the issue may not necessarily be related to the current driver.

Good Luck.

I took a look at your HjT log and could not find anything that would warrant great concern. I am still baffled and wish I could be of more help.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but it sounds like hardware failure to me.
Could be a fried soundcard, or damaged sectors on the hard drive, or a damaged chip on the mobo, etc.

The only possibly suspicious entry in your HJT log is:

Running Processes
C:\WINDOWS\runservice.exe

"LicCrtl (runservice.exe)
eLicense, licensing system incorporated with some software and games"

There's nothing actually calling this file in your StartUp entries,
so it's probably set as an automatic service...?
(and can be set to manual or disabled in services control panel).

However, I doubt if this is to blame for your soundcard problem

I'm afraid so

I just reformated everything and witout installing anything I still had no sound, I ran a sound hardware check thingie and my computer got completely dead at the same point.

I just ordered a creative audigy 2, I hope it will solve my problems.

Needless to say my video problems were present too,I am hoping that the sound card is messing with my videos in some way. and that with the new sound card everything will be fine.

I am very grateful for all the help guys.
