Streaming MP3s via URL directly to WinAmp v5.03 - Bypass "File save as" dialogue
Looked over the following posts for about 3 hours now trying everything inside out backwards upside down and inverted. nothing is working.
WinXP Pro w/ SP1A IE 6.0.2800 w/ SP2 WinAmp v5.03 I don't have any of the 'usual suspects' installed: -NO RealPlayer -NO QuickTime -NO ShoutCAST WMP v9 is all but totally disabled interms of its handling of audio files. All other prgrams that handle or intercept files have been disabled AND uninstalled. HERE is what my investigations in this forum have turned up. RELATED POSTS: Here Wayland expressed the same problem with being prompted to download MP3's instead of having them stream to WinAmp. DIFFERENCES: He had RealOne and MusicMatch Installed and was running Windows ME. Here Hachihyaku had similar problems, but once again, he had QuickTime installed. This post is also from 2002, and that means that not only is the OS most likely different but that the WinAmp, WMP, and IE versions are all older, outdated versions. Perhaps someone (you) have a fix already... Sigh... someone just tell me the command to make WinAmp handle (open) an MP3 as it does a URL so i can set that i can add that as a parameter to the file association handler as default. |

Winamp will only automatically stream playlist extensions, .m3u and .pls
So, if it's your site, then use .m3u playlists to link to the mp3 files. If it isn't, then just drag+drop the mp3 url straight into the main winamp window (to play) or into the playlist window (to enqueue), or right click > copy link, and paste it into Winamp's open/add url box. For none playlist url's, Winamp will assume you want to download the file, not stream it (like WiMP does). It's not something I've tried, but you could try changing the MIME in the Registry for HKCR\.mp3 from audio/mpeg to audio/mpegurl and unchecking "confirm open after download" in: Windows > Folder Options > File Types > MP3 > Advanced |
