Setting up my own server - New User

Hey.

I've just installed the shoutcast plugin, and I'd like to begin brodcasting. I have a server which I rent and host my websites on, and I've been on a few sites that broadcast their stations via their server.

Can anyone tell me how I too can set this up? I'd like to be able to give people a link so it would just open the station in there Winamp player.

I can post addidtional information if nessesary, I know I'm being vauge. Details on my server can also be posted.

Do you have shell access to your server in order to install shoutcast?

btw, there is no plugin called shoutcast, it is server software, whether it runs on your PC or a 3rd party host. The plugin in is called DSP and allows the soirce to connect to the server software (shoutcast).

So you need 3 pieces, a Source (like Winamp), DSP plugin, and shoutcast.

post back if you need more info.

I dont have shell access, no.
Do I need it?

I'd prefer to run the station from my own server, if possible.

If you have just a regular web hosting account, you won't be able to run shoutcast on yourweb host. You can do it from yourown PC, or 3rd party host.

Link using this format: http://yourIP:yourPORT/listen.pls

Replace "yourIP" with your IP (which you can find from the hosting machine here) and "yourPORT" with your portbase as defined by your DNAS (server) config file. The default is 8000.

I am unable to connect at the moment. Obviously it works, though, since timi can connect.
