5.04 Upgrade Woes - Crashity Crash Crash
I upgraded recently from 5.03 to 5.04, both Full and entirely uneventful installs, and have had nothing but trouble with the new version, mainly due to its handling of Modern skins. I don't use IE, but I have tried clearing every cached document from any browser source with no results. My install was, as I said, clean, uneventful, and overwrote my previous 5.xx installs (I keep a copy of 3.something in another directory), absorbing the skin, plugin, and so forth folders. I'm running XP Home, everything fully updated, no system or registry changes whatsoever since my upgrade.
Here's how the problems manifest themselves: Some Modern skins which claim to work properly with 5.04 won't even load, just crash WA, for example, Multipass or the new LayerOne skin, upon loading, there's a crash and WA simply won't have anything to do with them. Other Modern skins seem to work just fine for a while, until some window behaviour either forces the skin back to a native Classic WA3-style skin or, in the case of the excellent AR-7 skin, for some reason the Main Window will suddenly expand to fill the screen horizontally, as if resized, and then disappear altogether, until another skin is loaded. This happens with about eighty to ninety percent of the Modern skins I load. HELP! P.S. - I've looked through the dump that XP generates when one of these crashes happen, and was amused to find such entries as "PORN - NULLSOFT", mentions of Final Fantasy games, and other tired-codemonkey oddities. Heh. |

I don't know how to fix this except... don't use those modern skins. To my knowledge there wasn't many changes to Winamp 5.04 except a few bug changes, so don't see how it would affect so many skins.
As for the "PORN - NULLSOFT", that's probably from Internet TV... I'm guessing. Or something the devs added for laughs, who knows. [@imho] man [@imho] I had dreams about unit testing last night :-( [@sim`a] i have nightmares about syntax errors, whats your point |

When you upgrade Winamp, your install is NOT clean.
But well, it should't happen anyway, off course. Maybe try to delete the file studio.xnf. This will reset all modern skin settings. Did you get an error message? Please post it. (like this: AppName: winamp.exe AppVer: 5.0.0.4 ModName: ???? ModVer: ???? Offset: ???? ) If a clean install doesn't help either, please post system specs. But note that third-party skins are actually not supported here. |
