First Winamp then Computer Freezes

Hello you guy's,

First let me tell you my configuration:
Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz
512 ddr non ecc memory
160 + 80 gig hard disk
Geforce 4200 TÍ with latest nvidia display driver

My problem is:
A few years ago i had upgraded to winamp 3.0
My computer timed out in the songs like 1 tenth of a second
There was an update for that particular problem on thread
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....time+out+patch
I think this it is...... i searched my ass off but there's is too much shit and i don't know if this is the right one.

Let me continue....
If i'm playing a list and i want to relax on my balkony i have to go back to my pc. I thought it was the screensaver so i turned it off.
But when i use other applications like i-net or outlook winamp 5.04 hangs and then my computer freezes. It then wait's and play's half a second. Most of the time i got so sick of it i used the power button. My pc did not like that too much. I never had problems with winamp3 in combination with that patch, but now i'm back from where i started and i like the new winamp too much to go back.
Hmm ... my sigaret wasted because of the head breaking here. Can you please help me out?

Cincearly

The_Dude_1978

p.s. Just a dutch guy
p.s. My computer is based configurated which i had no problems with what so ever. I use images to regain a clean working windows.

Make sure you have a clean install of Winamp 5. Do not install Winamp 5 over the Winamp3 folder/directory.

No Luck? Have you seen the Common Issues section of the Troubleshooters Sticky? Some good crash tips/fixes there. At a guess the two possible issues that I am thinking of are the "Plays mp3's for a few seconds, then stops" and the "Limited Multi-User account issues". Both are covered in Common Issues.

Otherwise please provide additional system specs including the names of any third party Winamp plug-ins, and details any error message .

Could a Mod move this to TS – Thanks

Hey guy's

Sorry i have to come back and bother you with this, but it seems a few numbers in my collection are causing the problem. It's like when something frustrating happens all you think it does just only that. Could it be some codec that i miss or maybe have too much like that damned quicktime? I did a clean install of winamp 5.04 after i uninstalled it and removed everything within the folder. Maybe it's more clear to both of us now. Any idea's?
Thanks in advance

Windows version? Soundcard? What file formats are you having troubles with (MP3, WMA, MID, AVI, WMV, etc)?

I am sorry, I don't understand what you mean by that. Numbers in the ID3 tag or file name. Or by "numbers" are you talking about different songs/music?

There i was again,

I also used hardware buffer en selected the sound card driver etc etc. I read most of the topics that could be in handy ... The Common Issues is quiet handy. Saved it in my favorites. Might come in handy sometime.....

So it's only happening with certain songs? (@JonnyMac: in Dutch, songs can be called 'nummers' (i.e. 'numbers'), which (maybe) explains the confusion )

If you try to play those songs in another media player (for instance, Windows Media Player), are you experiencing the same problem?
If so, I'd say it's not Winamp-related.
Mmhh, but I see you said in Winamp3 it was working fine

Did you already try the DirectSound output tweaks?
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....26#post1212926

I assume you already read the Creative-related threads:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....082#post390082
Did you install the latest drivers and followed other instructions there?

Consider posting a HijackThis log:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html
Maybe some other application is interfering where it shouldn't, or maybe you got some spyware messing things up.

Other ideas are welcome.

[edit]
Just to be sure:
Did you install any 3rd-party plugins? (like mp3pro, DSP, or other extra plugins)
Using a specific (3rd-party) modern/classic skin?

Are you sure it's an mp3 file?
What do you see when you right-click that file in the playlist > view file info...?
What do you see when you search for the file through Windows Explorer?

I see the path where it's located. It's a mp3 file allright only it's not there. The Search results show nothing what so ever. And i did a clean install of winamp and searched all over for music files and it did find that path. I'm more then possitive that i did not deleted those files. There aint no stuff in my trash as well. Do the second album list of them does exist in the folder beneith.
Could it be some hacker is claiming an invissible part of my hard disk which i cannot detect or see?

You upgraded from Winam3, correct? Were the files in question in the Winamp3 folder/directory?
Did you have the Winamp 5 installer delete the Winamp3 folder.

Got to go now, my work break is over. I’ll check back at this thread at a later time.
