extremely disheartening video difficulty

whenever i play a video file (mpeg or avi) the sound plays but the video never does. That sucks, and I hope that i can fix it. I am using winamp 5 and my system specs are.

Windows 98 SE
500 mhz processor
256 mb ram
4 mb video card (I know that sucks but it can run diablo so shouldnt it run mpegs?)
direct x 6.1a (could this be it?)

No pictures when playing Videos / Internet TV?
