How many?
How many CDs do you buy per paycheck?
I guess this is a poll in a way...but I will not set it up as such..... I get paid biweekly and usually buy two. I do this either via ebay, used cd stores, or SALES at tower or bestbuy or wal-mart. I pay full price for nothing! lol.

A better question would be, how many CD's do you buy a year, I think I'm up to about 1 a year now, although I did just buy a 4 disc box set off ebay, does that count as four or one....?

buy a cd ??? are you out of your mind
have you seen the prices on those things!!!!! the record companies should be ashamed to ask so many for just a disk with maybe 12 songs on it! since i already have a very large collection there is hardly anything released that really is worth buying nowdays. ( last one was the latest album by the cure) |

I gave up buying CD's pretty much at the start of the napster boom 5 years or so back, the only ones I've really bought since then have been Xmas/birthday presents for someone else, a burn CDR with a printed insert just dosn't look good. Think those total about 3, maybe 4. I bought a CD for myself a couple of years back, Steroid Maximums - Ectopica, mainly because I couldn't find it anywhere on the web, I also bought myself a copy of 45rpm by Thethe, mainly because I had all their other stuff on CD anyhow, and wanted it in decent quality as well, I also bought the London Town 4 cd Box set by Thethe as well, again I wanted the spanky new DDD pressings of the discs because I love the sound so much. The last two I got off ebay, so didn't pay a great deal for them, the Ectoica album was actually a gift from the inlaws, but I bought it myself. Other than that, can't say I've bought anything else, other than blank CD's to backup my downloaded files. I spend what I would spend on CD's on my home adsl. better value for money and I still get all the audio I need

CD's rule, they sound better, last longer and are currently more versatile.
If something sounds good I'll get it on CD because they're just better than MP3's. If you disagree then your sound system sucks. "We think science is interesting and if you disagree, you can fuck off." |

Does that run on my hi-fi CD player?
I haven't tried it but I imagine that a CD played through a PC sounds bad and on par with lossy compressed files. People dont spend thousands of pounds on individual hi-fi components for no reason. I only spent about £700 on my system but there is a massive difference to sound quality and clarity. You can spend about £5000 on a CDP alone and then you can easy spend upwards of £20,000 on an amp setup and tripple that on a pair of speakers. Yet for some reason a £99 PC with a SB soundcard can outperform it. Please. Audio compression is great, it has many uses but don't try compare it to a CD in a decent hi-fi, it'll lose every time. You'll never know unless you try.
If you're serious about testing it on your CD player you need to have someone make you a CD with original and compressed tracks in random order and see if you can pick out the compressed ones (and if you're so sure, use Lame --alt-preset extreme). And btw, not all PCs have soundmangler cards (hint). |

yeah, i went through a 3 year phase where I downloaded EVERYTHING! But, I've been feeling guilty this last summer and started to buy all I have downloaded (hmmm about 300 albums). I still download stuff that just comes out so I can have it...then when I can find it cheap on ebay or something, I'll snatch it and erase the downloaded version.
I have noticed that almost everything I download anymore is the VBR bit rate. Wtf? I hate it! There's not much if any diff between that and 192 - so what's the point? Again, I hate it.

SHOUTcast, K-Lite, WinMX, and Google are all I need to quench my music thrist.
Actual amount of CDs I buy per year: one...if you count borrowing one from the neighbors. This is a sig of some nature. |

If there's one thing P2P has done for me, it's open my eyes to all new kinds of music. Downloading music and buying CD's off of eBay really brings home how limited the average local music store is.
Which is why the RIAA hates it!!! All told, I buy four or five CD's a year. |
