Mixed mode CD's and WA5
Basicaly put I can't figure it out, there is no report of anyone having problems playing mixed mode CD's since WA2 about four years ago.
So I put it to you all now, why on this crazed planet won't my WA 5.05 play mised mode CD's, it opens them as if they were either blank or data only, WMP will play them just fine so I don't think it's a codec thing. The old WA2 work arround of right clicking and choosing play > cd drive X:.. won't work as there's not menu option for it. I'm using the CDreader plugin and that doesn't help. Any one have a clue what's going on, the machine also seems to be incapable of reading MP3 CDs, well all the ones I've tried. |

There is a bug with Copah's CD Reader plug-in that prevents the menu item from showing up in WA5's main or context (right click) menu. It is up to the developer to update the plug-in.
Try uninstalling the plug-in. After that, the menu play method should work. Winamp's default CD input plug-in has supported DAE since 2.9x. |

well that's a royal pain and no mistake, nullsoft's plugin can't be bothered to use my hard compiled cdplayer.ini and insists on calling all the tracks 'artist-track#' while cd reader, a clearly superiour plugin, can't even access the damn cd if it's multi-mode. Can't they find a happy middle ground?

I use a lot of compilation CDs and share your frustration with the cdplayer.ini issue. Unfortunately Nullsoft have tied themself to a proprietary CDDB format and have to do as they are told.
The situation may not be as bad as you think though. The installation instructions for CDReader advise uninstalling Winamp's native CDDA plugin first, this is to avoid possible conflicts between the two. In my experience this may not be necessary and I have them both sitting side by side with never a problem, give it a try, you may not have any problems either. This gives the best of both worlds really, CDReader will be used via the Explorer interface(Add file/Add Folder) and Winamp native plugin will be used via the Play menu(for the occasional enhanced CD). This usually works well. If you routinely use 'Add file' then compilations will be picked up from the global database, enhanced CDs from the Play menu will invariably be available in Gracenote CDDB anyway. btw. Are you a Doris Lessing fan by any chance ? UJ |
