No video when opening a file, but there is video on Internet TV
I have downloaded a couple of Halo videos. I save them as Winamp files. Whenever I attemp to play them, I can hear sound, but I cannot see video. When I click View>Video, it just shows the Hullsoft logo with the llama. My specs are:
Operating System: Windows 98 (4.10, build 1998) System Manufacturer: n/a System Model: n/a BIOS: n/a Processor: Intell Pentium II, MMX, ~350MHz Memory: 512Mb DirectX Version: 9.0b (4.09.0000.0902) I don't know what is wrong. I am not good with computers, but my only guess is that I don't have 98SE or higher. I am hoping like hell that isn't the case, though. |

What do you mean by "save them as Winamp files"? Winamp is a media player that supports and plays many different file types. Where did you download these Halo videos from? What 3-character file extension do the Halo videos have?
Looks to me to be identical to this problem > no video just sound What is the 3-character file extension of the actual video file that you downloaded? I'll need you to answer the same questions I asked of Tron_666 in that other thread. Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads. WMA -> Windows Media Audio WMV -> Windows Media Video You've downloaded Halo audio files and not video files. Hence, no video. |

If you think they should contain video try renaming them to wmv.
Wma files are handled by the in_wm audio plugin, wmv by in_dshow. To be sure and to see if you have to install newer codecs you can also open them with GSpot. Note: the displayed stream type is always video/x-ms-asf, you have to use the DirectShow render function to see if they really contain a video stream. |

Oh yeah. If he has WinXP and SP2 and used the IE browser to http:// download the files, it could be that ridiculous problem that the Internet Explorer browser has with wrong-guessing MIME file types and downloading stuff with the wrong file extensions.
Try renaming, neXus, as gaekwad indicated to see if they are actually videos. If that doesn't work and you feel you've downloaded an actual video file but are unsure of what the actual file extension/ type is, then do as I instructed the guy in the other thread to do, and use GSpot to determine the type of video and what if any missing codec is required. [Edit] Ahhh, gaekwad!! You edited your post as I was typing my reply. LOL! [/Edit] |

Well, i went to the file's properties and discovered that it is indeed a WMV file type. Hmm, this is trange and confusing. I havn't used the GSpot program, but I have downloaded it.

Also, where it displays the file name scrolling across Winamp, its name is, 'HALO2: LOCKOUT.WMV' Alos, when I used the GSpot program, I chose the Halo file, and it said it was an unsupported filetype. Hoe exactly do I use the program efficiently?

EDIT: When I clicked the grey render button at the bottom of the screen, it said it was unable to play the audio type. it is 30,000 kB, and only 6 mins. It sounds like low-quality audio, so that tells me there is some video in there. I was able to play the videos on a computer with an OS that supported Windows Media Player 9. '9 sounds like it has updated codecs, and I only have 7.1. Is there a way to download codecs for '7.1? I'm thinking that if I download the '7.1 codecs, I will also be able to play movies on Winamp. That's my guess though. |

The only thing I can think of right now:
Did you reboot after installing the codecs? |
