Bad sound quality...
Well, I searched for the answer for about half an hour, and came to the conclusion that my computer uniquely sucks. Anyway, my problem is that when I try to play music in Winamp, instead of hearing music, I get increasingly worse static. At the beginning of the song, its ok, but the static completely takes over by the end of the song. I have Windows 98, First Edition, and I'm not quite sure about the sound card.
On a side note, this problem only comes up every now and then, and rebooting does not fix it. |

Well you can try some of these DirectSound output tweaks to see if that clears up the problem, but... if you've been downloading music using a P2P (peer-to-peer) application, then MP3's (and other formats) may possibly be "corrupted" (sabotaged). Matter of fact, the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) has sabotaged many files being distributed via P2P applications.
If you haven't been using P2P applications to download music, and if it's also a system-wide problem then also update your sound drivers. You said that you are not quite sure about the soundcard. Well find out what it is you have. If you have a soundcard visit the soundcard manufacturer's site for an update. If instead you have an onboard sound chip go to the site of your computer provider or the motherboard manufacturer. Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. Instead, either start a NEW TOPIC or post a REPLY in the appropriate thread in these forums. This will also benefit others who may have a similar question or problem. But before posting, please first Search the forums and read all FAQs and all Sticky threads. Well, this is music ripped from CDs, and it only applies to when I play music in Winamp.

"ripped from CDs"...
Then in that case you can probably rule out the RIAA, P2P apps, and corrupted downloads. "only applies to when I play music in Winamp"... So you are saying that the problem only happens in Winamp and not in other audio players (eg: Windows Media Player)... right? Then go ahead and apply the DirectSound output tweaks that I referenced in my earlier post. If that doesn't work, update the soundcard drivers as I mentioned in my first post (you should always check for new driver updates anyway). |
