Video Cards

So.. I'm looking into video cards for my new system, because 32mb onboard isn't using my system like it should :P

I was looking for something quiet, but powerful.. I'm thinking 128mb because as far as I know 256 are expensive, but I can get 128s cheap from blucollar, here are what they have:
http://www.blucollarsales.com/catalo...php?cPath=1_48

I can buy from somewhere else, but I can get discounts on anything from blucollar. Yeah, they're reputable, that's where I bought the system from.

Keep in mind I'm not looking for the "ultimate gaming" card. I'm looking for the "look, im not leet, but I can still kick ass on americas army" card.

Apparently 32mb is obsolete

yeah, i'm back.

I would get a 9600XT in your situation, it's not on blucollar though. Newegg has some good deals. Try getting a card that has gone through the third-party deal, its usually the same price if not cheaper for more. Some packages are stripped of games and the such that bloat the price of the card. Sapphire is a nice reliable brand for Ati cards.

I doubt he would buy a new motherboard just for this, plus the only MBs out for PCI-E are 939 socket ones.

none of the cards on that list are very good......although the 5200s probably are best....If i were you I would go looking for a geforce 4 ti, they kill the 5200 in just about every game. No longer produced but there should be enough floating around on the internet (ie ebay), among other places.....

Yeah, seems everyone recommends the 5200.

The only game I play is America's Army, for now at least. But for the amount of money I make, and what I need it for I figure 128 should be plenty for me. Eventually I want to play counterstrike, not sure of it's minimum requirements :x

yeah, i'm back.

5200 isnt that good. I had one. On Cs it would just die at smoke. It got 50fps average, but then just dips to about 15.

I agree. The 9600pro/xt's are still pretty good value.

Other new cards worth a look are:

Radeon 9550
Radeon 9800se
FX 5900XT

Or second hand, a 9700pro or Ti4200/4400/4600 are available very cheaply nowdays.

I'm still using a ti4400, and it's fine for most games, although i will be upgrading to a 6800GT shortly.

Actually, it's a suffix.

get the 5200 FX, EVERY video card has problems with "smoke" AKA pixel fog as far as i've seen

i'd also like to say MINE (the 5200 FX) isn't top of the line anymore and you could prolly pick one up for a great price, plus the card has performed like a champ for me

I hate everyone, so you don't have to.

I tried to get a 9700 Pro, but since ATI no longer makes them, I had to step it up and get a 9800 Pro =/

Ditto. Delt with shit from them so badly that I actually returned a 9600pro back to the store because of terrible framerates in games like America's Army, even at 800x600. They're a bitch to overclock, also...

This is a sig of some nature.

Just get PowerStrip, it's practically got support for every card.
