"I kind of thought [signing up for AOL] was like subscribing to the yellow pages," said Lewen. "We kept getting copies of the phone book, so I thought AOL was doing that. I also wanted the virus protection, because it was flu season."
Is this some sort of joke?

When my family first got a computer (circa 1999), we subscribed to AOL using one of those one-month free trials. By the end of that month, my dad had found out about Juno (which is crap, by the way) offering free service (not just a trial). So, my mom calls at the end of the trial to cancel, the rep asks why, and she says she just never needed to use it. The rep gives us another free month to try it out and find how awesome AOL is. Repeat for about 6 more months until we finally get a rep that just canceled us.

I have got two AOL CDs while living in New Zealand, and AOL is not even available in my country (thank god). They still give out CDs with American PC magazines and things.
