stopping winamp launching aol

i have erased winamp twice and downloaded it 3 times now. with 2.666 when attempting to play cd's winamp launched aol and attempted to connect to the web. now with winamp 2.7 it does that as well as doing exactly the same when playing downloaded music from my hard drive. it never gets past the final connection to aol as the message box always says that aol cannot be accessed by this method, but why does it do it in the first place and how can i stop it doing it in the future?
