Dedicated Hardware
I was looking at some of the wireless audio adapters from linksys, netgear, smc and others. They are all capable of receiving shoutcast streams. I'm looking for the other way around. I have a satellite radio tuner and want to broadcast that around the house without having a bunch of wires running through the walls.
Do any of you know of a device that has audio inputs and acts as a shoutcast server? Since its for home use and would only have 2 or 3 "clients" connecting it would need to be cheap.. under $200 like the receivers are. Thanks! |

A better idea would be one of those "Rabbits" for audio -- the input is a line level source [which you could attach to the] speaker output of one PC -- this PC could recieve the shoutcast, it could even be the live source].
The ouput is via wireless transmitter that has recievers which supply a line out source that can be placed by other audio equipment with a line input [an amp, A/V reciever, your TV, a VCR, a PC...]. There are also similar devices that use your in-house AC wiring to transmit the audio signal between rooms. It's similar to a "baby monitor" for audio , but without speakers... ![]() I think the price is close to what you're looking for. I really forget where I saw it -- J&R, Sharper Image, Radio Shack maybe? If you have various devices around your house recieving a stream through the network, you would have a terrible echo effect whenever you could hear any two at the same time, that would get worse with the more devices you have "listening." |

actually, whats hes asking is how to broadcast his satellite radio through shotucast. iirc, depending on what service you have, there is a PC based tuner that connects via USB and would work very well for this. although using the line in on your standard tuner would work as well. beyond that, its as simple as running the winamp/dsp combo andsetting it to soundcard input and broadcasting it.
