Windows Media Rights Manager V7?

What is it? when i try and play this song that i have it doesnt let me play it. it directs me to a website located Here. this is the message it says.

In order to play this file, you need to upgrade your media player to a version compatible with Windows Media Rights Manager V7. Select View Compatible Players below to see a list of compatible media players.
If your current media player does not have a Windows Media Rights Manager V7 compatible version, you should select a different player with the Windows Media Rights Manager V7 identifier.

What does it all mean thanks for the help.

Due to restrictions from Microsoft, Winamp cannot currently play DRM protected WMA files. You are restricted to Windows Media Player or the program that you used to purchase them.

Is this still the case with WMA files? Or is it likely to be implemented in the future?

WMA, WMV and ASF can contain DRM, or not.
What's DRM
Why DRM sucks

I'll take a look at those But I was wondering if the current version of winamp can read these files? Or if it's planned for the future?

The answer is "yes".
As from Winamp 5.04, in_wm.dll now supports drm for wma (up to v9).

but do you still need to install windows rights management? Is there a way to install rights management without installing windows media player?

DRM is part of the Windows OS.
The WM Codecs / DieectShow filters need to be installed, otherwise you can't play WMA with any player. Note, the codecs can be installed separately to WMP.
