saving to wsz problems!

I am brand new to skinning and have read that wsz files are renamed compressed files... to check first I renamed one to .rar, extracted the files then repacked them to .rar and renamed .rar to .wsz, the problem is that I use winamp 5.08 and when I set this .wsz as the skin it says "no info found" and winamp uses the default classic skin???

whats the problem here as to learn I was going to alter the classic skin .bmp's in photoshop as I'm sure most newbie's do, any help would be appreciated.

Don't make them .rar, try .zip instead.
