Automatic Gen & Gen_Ex creation.

I've been wondering whether it's possible to make a plugin that generates gen.bmp, gen_ex.bmp & video.bmp files from the original classic skin files. I noticed how WinCue is able to steal the necessairy skin elements from the playlist skin etc.

It'd be an excellent feature to add since so many Winamp 2.x skins still have no support for the Media Library and more.

Basically, what I'm enquiring about is whether it's possible to make old skins skin generic windows as well (doesn't have to be through this generation method.. ;o)

Maybe, maybe not, there are cetain parts of the gen/video/genex images that are common to other parts of wianmp, and then again there are parts of them that don't have a similar part anywhere else.

Take for instance the colour controls on genex?, where would you pick those from, or the gen text area for naming the windows?

Those are just two I can think of.

How you would achieve this?, no idea, I think your asking the wrong people in here, skinners are generally not plugin makers, so the vast majority of people probably won't be able to help.

A fact, undoubtly, but there are few better places to introduce the problem. I think the only way to solve this would be building some kind of default skin elements for parts that cannot be found; or interpolating; the font would be fixable by reading colour codes from skin elements and creating it manually through some font. But that's getting a bit very hard and advanced..

Winamp does exactly that, use the DEFAULT skin elements for parts that can't be found.

Honestly, I tend to think you'll have to wait a long time before anybody would make such a plugin if it is possible.

As a point of information, all the skins published after the release of Winamp 5 do have these components skinned. That would be after December 16, 2003, I believe.

True, but what I meant was slightly different.

I read some threads in here where people had created a gen(_ex).bmp from the other skins themselves, I've been giving it a try but thus far it's been a miserable failure. If any of those whom have successfully done such a thing in the past could hint or guide me on doing it myself, I'd love to give it a try, and perhaps if I saw a way I'd like to give this idea a try myself (making an app to do it).
