Windows ME. winamp wont recognize...

I have Windows ME. My problem is that I can't get the plug-in to show up under the devices column. Reading previous posts, the solution appears to load itunes first, etc. but because my system can't support itunes, i can't even install it. please help, i really don't want to have to return my ipod!

So is there anyway I can get the plug-in to work, or not?
