Winamp will play for a while and then stops

I know that this is similar to the many poeple who had problems in the 4 second thread. I have a different issue though.

Winamp will play songs for a while and then will cease to play songs untill the computer is rebooted. I am only playing MP3's, not corrupted ones.

I have done a clean install several times, makes no difference. Have run both adaware and spybot, makes no difference.

Another interesting happening, Whenever winamp is reloaded after it stops playing music it reverts back to default settings with the exception of the EQ. It also seems to stay resident in the system memory unless I manually end the process in the task manager.

Here are the stats on my comp.

AMD AthalonXP 2800+
Asus A7N8XE Deluxe motherboard with onboard Nvidia Nforce 2 chipset and onboard sound support
Windows XP Pro with SP2

I am running Winamp 5.08 and did not have problems untill I downloaded the new version.

I have looked through the 4 second problem thread for solutions, tried finding the hated winhelp32.dll.exe and it is not on my computer

Here is my Hijack This log:

Thank you for not posting in the 4 second thread. Yes, your problem is different.

I suspect it could be an nForce driver issue.
Make sure you have the latest onboard sound drivers.

Also try the DirectSound Output tweaks.

Re: HJT log

Yes, there are a few questionable items in your log.
One or two known spyware/malware apps
and a few legit but useless resource hogging entries.

We'll begin with the malware items...

Are you sure you ran SpybotSD and AdawareSE correctly?
Both should've detected and removed Wild Tangent (removal)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WildTangent CDA] RUNDLL32.exe "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0400.dll",cdaEngineMain

O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe

O16 - DPF: {1D6711C8-7154-40BB-8380-3DEA45B69CBF} (Web P2P Installer) -

Go to Add/Remove Programs Control Panel
and if there's an entry for WildTangent and/or PowerReg Scheduler, remove them both.

If those three entries still exist afterwards, use HJT to fix them.

Make sure all browser and Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing with HJT (the same applies when running SpybotSD and AdawareSE).

___________________________________________________

Useless resource hogs (note, these are legit processes, but are not required to be running at startup):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04\bin\jusched.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

There's an option in the Java, Real and QT Control Panels to disable these startup features. I highly recommend that you disable them.

These can be disabled with HJT:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NeroFilterCheck] C:\WINDOWS\system32\NeroCheck.exe

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

Apart from that, I'm really not sure what's causing the problem.
Is Radclock some overclocking feature for your Video card? Overclocking hardware can cause a number of problems... :/

I think it may have been the driver after all. I feel really stupid for not checking to see if I had the most up to date drivers for my sound card. I now do have the current drivers and taking that crap off with HJT winamp seems to working in its full glory again, YEAH!!!!

Thanks for all the help and the prompt reply, you guys do a great job.
