always on top NOT always on top

i'm using the newest version (5.05) with the modern skin and the auto fading feature. however, i've found that, even with the Always On Top option checked, sometimes the playlist or the main window (or sometimes both) would disappear behind another window. has this happened to anyone else?

thanks.

Maybe this (although I am little doubtful)...
Ctrl+P > General Preferences > uncheck "Disable always on top while fullscreen applications are in focus"

Otherwise, are you using any desktop/shell utilities/enhancer/replacement (eg yzshadow, nView, Litestep, Samurize, StyleXP, Windows Blinds, Perfect Menu, Aston shell, etc.)? Default modern skin or a third party skin? Any applications with their own AOT setting?

@ listeruk
Older versions of Winamp are not supported. Try upgrading (5.05 at the time of this reply).

So you unchecked that option, and the problem persists, yes?

Prefs > General Preferences > uncheck "Disable always on top while fullscreen applications are in focus"

Note: with ^that^ option enabled, Winamp's aot feature will be disabled when executing Windows' Show Desktop command, because Show Desktop acts as a fullscreen app.
Also note that Winamp will be minimized when using Show Desktop, regardless of that setting being on or off, because that's what 'Show Desktop' does.
For it to remain on the desktop (eg. like Trillian/ICQ) when using Show Desktop command would mean that this feature would need to be implemented as an option in Winamp (which it currently isn't).

Or does the problem only occur when Trillian is running?

Or does the problem only occur when using a particular 3rd-party modern skin?

You tell us... because we STILL can't reproduce it, and none of your posts are helping, [edit] including ALL of the ones below :/ [/edit].

I can’t find the thread, however I recall a similar issue. If memory serves me correctly it was a issue with nVidia’s nView. Apparently there is a AOT setting in niew that can force various apps to the top. If I can find the thread I will post it. Until then try disabling nView. My memory on this little foggy so it could have been another shell enhancer causing the problem

I'm having the same problem, I tried unchecking the "Disable AOT when...." box, but that didn't work. I've got a P3 1Ghz Dell running Win98, 512megs RAM, no enhanced video, just whatever's on-board (Intel 8215 Graphics Controller maybe?)
connection: Adelphia Powerlink cable modem

btw Listeruk: nice piece of hardware

I've also had this problem for as long as I've used Winamp 5.xx. I use 5.05 with the Winamp Modern skin in stick mode. I have no plugins besides a few Input codecs such as FLAC. The problem seems to occur randomly.

WinXP Pro SP2
AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 2.133ghz
80GB HD
512MB RAM
64MB Nvidia GeForce4 MX
DirectX 9.0c

No programs running besides Winamp, Mozilla Firefox, Miranda IM, and a folder.

me too

i'm having the same problem. i run winamp with "Always On Top" as a bar across my top and sometimes the playlist wont show or sometimes the main player bar wont show but the playlist will. it's completely random (i think) but i can usually bring which ever window back to being on top if i close out of it then open it again. so if my playlist keeps hiding, i can usually close that window and open it again and it will work fine.

i have just recently disabled the "Disable Always On Top while fullscreen applications are in focus" and so far so good. i probably wont know if that actually works or not until acouple weeks from now due to the problem being random.

i also checked out that nView thing (i have a Geforce FX5200) but it wasn't enabled. :/

i have no shell enhancers/changers and am running a) the winamp modern skin and b) the windows xp style.

the only plugins i am currently using is the newest build of audioscrobbler...but i have had this problem before i installed my audioscrobbler plugin.

specs:
Mobo: Epox 8RDA+
CPU: AMD Athlon 2500+ Barton
RAM: Kingston Hyper-X 2x 256mb sticks (pc2700)
soundcard: on board..so nVidia nForce audio
videocard: geforce fx 5200
OS: win xp pro, sp1
directx: 9.0a (i think. x.x)

like i said earlier, i think by unchecking the "Disable AOT..." box fixed the problem...but i thought i'd post to let you know what i was running and that i had had a problem.

I could have sworn I had the AOT checkbox off earlier, but apparently I didn't. Winamp hasn't disappeared behind another window in ages so I guess that did it. Thanks for the help.

I am still having the problem, just to add - I've never used and have never installed ANY instant messaging software. I even uninstalled MSN and Windows Messenger as soon as I installed Windows.

I just say this to discount any thoughts that this problem may be caused my IM software, because it's not with me.

I fixed my problem!!

I was using the MMD3 skin while this problem was happening so if you use that skin, then here is the most likely solution for you:

http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....&highlight=top

If you're not using MMD3, you might want to see if your skin has a similar solution. If not, sorry I can't help you and good luck. :]

Thanks for the update, but I am a little confused here. The title of this thread is
"always on top NOT always on top"

However the MMD3 problem is just the opposite. AOT is always on.

Yes, Trillian is always on - from startup(not much point in it otherwise) Trillian AOT unchecked - default.

Do you think that this may affect Winamp?

I see this too with v5.05, modern skin.

XP Pro SP2
AMD64 3200+
1024MB DDR400
Radeon 9500 Pro (4.10 Beta Omega Drivers)
NEC DVD Burner
LG CD Burner
Trillian installed
uxtheme.dll replaced

It seems to happen randomly, I'll post back when it happens again.

I use a uxtheme.dll patcher to enable non-digitally signed themes to be used with Windows XP. I can reproduce this every time by applying skins from the Appearance tab of desktop properties. I have to select Winamp and hit Ctrl + A twice to fix it.

I have to do the same thing to fix the problem...
The playlist mostly loses its always on top status which is really annoying. I have my WinAMP docked to the top of the screen, "minimized" and with the playlist docked to the right of the player itself. Using winxp pro, and the latest version of WinAMP (5.08)...
