Circuit City
I have an interview at circuit city tomorrow and am wondering if anyone has any experience working there or knows anyone who does. I'm a bit nervous as this is my first time looking for a job. What can I write on my resume if I've never had a job before? I'm feeling a bit lost and could use some advice on the whole interview process. Thank you very much.

Include about any previous work you've done. Try and sell yourself, don't worry about sounding arrogant (but don't go too far, don't be cocky). Make sure you put down details of your education to date.
At the top, put your full name, email, phone, address, date of birth. Try to fit it all on one page. Write some bullshit about how enthusiastic you are, how willing to help you are and about your interests. Mention something to do with teamwork and that you are good working in a team, employers like that. Since it's an electronics store, they'll want to know about your life as a geek. However, you must also show them that you can relate to others and that you are a ********person. Sorry, that wasn't very organised, but I hope it helps. |

the only thing about working there, is being able to push extended warranties, and EXTRA stuff. you have to be able to convince these guys you are able to push stuff people dont need and get them to buy it.

I feel kind of stupid writing a resume with no work experience. I'm a senior in high school looking for a sales job. Maybe i don't really need a resume.

do it anyway. As long as you look professional then it's set.

Yes, You need a resume.
Do you know what is in a resume? Better find out. Going to a job interview without a resume is one of the stupidest things you can ever do. Lets start with one of the most important parts. And one of the last things your interviewer will ask you. "Do you have References" Do you have a neighbor that you cut grass for? Thats a job. You worked for him put him down as a reference. You did some painting at your Aunts house. Put her down as a reference. Plus any people other than family that I can call and that they say that your a good egg and you would make a great employee. Put their name and number on there as a reference. Family Doctors, Teachers, Your best friends dad, ect. I want to know alot about you. And I want too call some people to verify what your saying is true. And that I can depend on you to show up for work. Basically Anything you have accomplished so far in life is fair game for a resume. I'am sorry k_rock923 there is so much to cover here. @ your age there is enough stuff to fill a 3 page resume. But for now one page is plenty enough. All I can say is....... Don't go without a resume. And just relax and be yourself. And don't worry there is so much work out there its just unbeliveable. Remember just relax and this is just a stepping stone to finding your nich in this world. http://www.google.com/search ![]() /edit/ By the way..... if you put someone on your resume its a good thing to ask permission first. And tell them they may be getting a call from your future employer. Last edited by webthing; 21st April 2005 at 04:06. |

I dunno Psythik.
Webthing, you think two references are enough. I'm using two organizations that I did volunteer work for. In one of them I was name volunteer of the year. Never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon full of tapes hurtling down the highway. |

At least three references. (That way they have a better chance to reach someone to talk to more quickly if they need to hire somebody quickly. Three references is pretty much standard.
Put me down. I give you Two thumbs-up. But go with what you have. And be proud! Hey "Volunteer of the year" should be good enough for anyone. Your hired. ![]() Good luck dude. Up the Irons! |

I have to write a resume as well. It sucks considering I just want a job at Subway.
![]() Anywho.. my mom's boyfriend owns his own business and i've worked from him a couple of times so i'm just using that as my previous work history. Though i've certainly milked it for all it's worth. For example, I used the fact that i've done work in the Department of Defence (they added a big building that needed work done inside) to show how trusted I am. Yet there was other workers with me who were irresponsible as hell ![]() Then again, my brother got to do work for Brinks... man I wish I was there. They were unloading a shipment of cash (roughly 2 million) while he was there. Of course should he have tried to take it, he would have been shot by one of the numerous armed guards that were with it

Well, I just got back from my interview. I think it went fairly well. I wasn't overly nervous but I think that most people would understand a little bit of nervousness. He asked me the typical 'tell me about yourself' question and I went on to tell him my interestes and some of my qualifications.
When he found out that I had a strong intereset in computers he brought me out to the computer department and had one of the guys there quiz me. "Name all of these ports on the back of this computer" He said that it wasn't meant to be a stupid question but that's really as advanced as it got with the customers. So long as you know the basics and know your way around a computer, you'll be fine he said. When I told him that I had been preparing for the A+ exam but didn't have 300 bucks lying around to take it he said "there is nothing here that you need to know that is anywhere near that technical" One of the other salespeople said to me while I was walking around "the one thing you have to remember is that the average customer is a complete moron". Which makes sense to me as people who know what they are doing generally buy online from specialty sites. I was told that they would call me back for a second interview, this time with the manager of the computer department. I think this went quite smoothly. Thanks for all the advice guys. They still haven't called back about the second interview with the computer manager. How long should I wait before calling them to see what's going on?

It's a moot point. . .
I had the first interview, wad told i would be called back for a second interview and never was. so i called them up to see if i missed the call or something. i talked to the manager and he asked my name and he apparantly went to look at the application, came back and said "uh, they decided to give it to somebody else" and hung up WTF??? They gave it to somebody else?? You're the fucking manager? I'm not even pissed about not getting the job. They have the right to hire whoever they want and if I don't have the credentials, I don't deserve the job. But they could have the fucking decency to tell that I didn't get it and not make me call them to find out.
