Are you addicted?

Wow, look at the time. I look at the clock in the corner of my screen and it's 1:13am, almost time for bed, I suppose. I feel that lightheadedness taking control of my motor functions, slowing my fingers, making them clumsy over the characters. I keep thinking "I should go to bed.." but I don't. I could be catching up on all the sleep I've been missing out, and then realise the reason I've been missing so much is because I'm here, wasting away in front of a computer, cramping my back in this crazy ass chair, telling myself I should have been happily asleep two hours ago.

What does it take to get me in bed? I sit here and get eye-strain, feeling my body edge closer to the lightbulb of a screen, only to move downward and watch the keyboard as I type. I've been asked what I do with my time, and I always say "what time?" when in reality I should be telling the inquiring mind that I spend my time sitting in front of a screen, typing bullshit to people for people at people, trying to make some sense of it all, but not being able to because I haven't gotten any sleep. It's some kind of weird dynamic: You want to sleep, but don't because you might be missing something or you noticed an interesting thing, or remembered something you had to look up.

I have about six movies I've seen and wanted to get some reference on for no particular reason, so I should be getting over to IMDB and doing that. I have a paper due, well, tommorrow now. Thurday. I should be writing the fucking thing, but I'm not. I'm here instead.

How much does this internet thing affect me? Too damn much. Well, it doesn't affect me once I'm out and about, but when I'm in this chair, it does. Is it pathetic? Sure. Can I stop? no. It's addicting, it really is.

So here I am, sitting and wondering how you all do, are you like me and staying up way late to discuss things like your favorite sock and if there are any new religion debates? Or are you somehow cabable of turning of the PC and going to bed when you want to?

But I'm in the same boat as Fickle on this, I'm totally stuck to this chair. But thanks to this I think I will go to bed now, I'm done with today.

I am slowly, slowly, slowly moving away from this. But Fickle, you NAILED exactly what (I hope) people like me do here.

Maybe... I can finally leave and go back to my art. I always did things better cold turkey, just needed that last kick in the right direction. Thanks.

Yes, it happens. I'm generally addicted to my computer. Whenever I'm in my room it's on, playing music, and anything I do usually revolves around it. I used to read a lot, now I only do it when I'm on holiday.

I used to stay up late, playing games, chatting to people, contributing to many forums. but since i have a job now, my pc is turned off between the 10pm & 11pm, but on fridays & saturdays. I have long nights of World of Warcraft.

One look at the Mrs tells me exactly that it's time to climb the stairs

and i never turn of the computer, just turn of the screen and the volume on the 5.1 surround set.

yup. all the time. hell, even right now. i was planning to come home today and look up online prices for the cell phone i wanna get before i go out and buy it at local cingular store at 5:00 because i got an appointment right after that and then the store closes for today, so that's the only chance i have to see if i can find it cheaper. since i came home at 2:40 i've been here instead. it's 4:40 now. fuck this!

I just lie in bed while I use the computer, with my brain mostly shut off. Than, when I'm done, I hit alt+f4, hit the power button, and fall asleep. It works well.

(BTW, ALT+f4 is the shortcut key to exit/close, so doing it while the taskbar has focus, it shuts down windows)
