Computer/Monitor issue
For a while this has been happening but I couldn't figure out what caused it. It seemed that randomly the bottom of my screen (where the sys tray is) would randomly make quick wavey lines that would last for about 30 seconds and then quit. Well now its not random. Whenever I open some programs (Firefox, and IE is what I've noticed so far) it will start happening. I tried degauss and updating to latest drivers for my video card but still happens.
OS: XP Pro SP2 CPU: P4 3.2 w/HT Video Card: 9800 Pro 128mb RAM: 1gb Corsair XMS HD: 120gb Western Digital Mobo: ASUS P4S800D Monitor: 20in KDSusa Any help appreciated. I came for the hatred. I stayed for the ballbag. |

Try turninig down the screen refresh rate and see if it still happens. Oh and try moving things like lights or other emf emitting objects away from the monitor.

The amount of bright pixels can also make som monitors go nuts.. or make buzzing noises... however, trying different refresh rates with your graphics adapter should work. If not, try other resolutions.

Time for a new monitor..
![]() Seriously though, if your monitor is totally messed up, and isn't like a brand new or expensive one, just get a nice new one, they are pretty cheap. Especially CRT. |

Only thing close to it is a TV but the monitor was doing it before the TV was there (just wasn't as bad). Happens with PSP 7 too. Also, if I open FF to my 4 homepages two or three of the tabs will happen but one of them doesn't. It is never the same tab either. The monitor is just over a year old. It was about $400. I should still have a warrenty on it...

If you have space for a CRT monitor, I'll advice you to use it. LCD technology is only good for places that have high electrical disturbances or places where there is need of the space that CRT monitors take up. I payed quite much to get the screen I have now, but it's 5 years old and is still one of the best I have ever seen (two of my buddies also have the exact same) and the refresh rates at higher resolutions is quite good. EDIT: I should found the "Long live the CRT-Monitor Foundation"

Nice pleading for CRT monitors there, PulseDriver.
I have only one argument: CRT's are not good for eyes. Their functioning principle is unhealthy because they are flashing 50 to 100 times every second (refresh rate). People don't see when the CRT image goes on/off, because human eye can't distinguish so many flashes in such a short time. The eye cannot distinguish them, but the retinae is hit by these on/off cycles... I would buy right now LCD if it has a decent response time (8ms or less) and if it has a decent price

Yep, that's why you need a good CRT monitor, recommended 100hz pluss

Something about your eyes getting tired or strained if refresh rate (hz) was too low?? Mine is at 75Mhz. Is that good or bad. |

The higher refresh rate means less time for the eyes to accomodate to the change of the light coming from your monitor. Over one point (70Hz upwards, but some say over 85Hz), your eye is fooled by the monitor: the light switches on/off so fast, that the eye has no time to accomodate. Still, these switches/flshes hurt your eyes, even if you don't feel it. I'm sorry if I can't explain this to good...
This isn't pleading for LCDs instead of CRTs. I was just trying to show that CRTs have problems too. |

Yeah either way it doesn't help when I sit in my room for hours at night with the lights off looking at my monitor playing games or surfing.
I just hate the glare of my lamps off the monitor... but it kills my eyes i'm sure.. |

I use a CRT monitor at home, but at work i use a nice TFT monitor, i find that playing games on my CRT at home is better, than my friends TFT at his house.

Got the new one two weeks ago, just crapped out. Heard a pop noise, everything turned bright and fuzzy. Restart or degauss didn't do anything, a different old monitor works fine.

Have you tried the old monitor on another videocard/system too?
If it worked fine there, then you should tripple-check your system before attaching a new monitor. Jesus loves you [yes, you] so much, he even died for you so that you will not need to die, but live forever |

Yea, You should go with a quality manufacturer. And with CRTs, that usually means NEC, Viewsonic, and that is about it. You can get a cheap CRT, but that means you will have to trade it in a few months. I was hesitant to get a LCD, but now I have one, I can't live with out it.

I have a tech question. Why do people complain about televisions not being fully HD when computer monitors can easily be configured to work as televisions?
Why don't they just buy computer monitors? Is it purely a size consideration? |
