Propane is dangerous. That's like the stuff used for heating in 3rd world countries.

this is why you stop spraying before the flame reaches the can.

It's way cooler to use a bicycle pump, fill the hose with something like methylated spirit, hold the match in front of it and PUMP.
Safer too I think. |

The whole UK uses propane for pretty much heating everything domestic. And it's under the roads, in the walls...

Is that propane..? I always thought it was methane, and that propane was used in those little gas burners.

Well, it's natural gas. Similar stuff really, it's a gas, it's lighter than air and it burns. Most of what arrives in the homes after it's processed is propane anyway.

I've seen that, it was rather impressive.
I've seen various things set alight with deodrant: school tables, books, football figurines. Apprantley my back was once set alight, I didn't know about it. |

I emptied an entire can of deoderant on fire into an ants nest and watched them get incinerated as they stepped out one by one. I have also done it on various other occassions, I do not say that it is really necessarily safe, perhaps I am just lucky, but from my experience it seems pretty stable.

It's nothing but fun, just remember not to hold the can for more than 5-10 seconds afire. Do it at regular intervals. I simply love doing it. THIS CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE DONE IN THE PRESENCE OF A PARAMEDIC AND OTHER REQUIRED EMERGENCY FORCES AND AT YOUR OWN RISK.

seriously.. i always make flamethrowers with spray paint and a lighter and stuff.. kind of a "duh, it's flammable"
It's also fun if you have a fire going to toss the cans in whole, it's awesome when they ignite, you get a 5 foot spray of different colored flames for a few minutes
yeah, i'm back. |

natural gas is mostly methane and ethane and such. Maybe when I get a chance I'll dig up my stuff from gaseous fuels class and clarify on this |

I use to do this as a child. And now that I think about it, it was extremely dangerous and stupid.
If it weren't for the fact that this isn't exactly an unknown concept, or the fact that most of our members aren't stupid enough to do this shit - i'm sure Jones would have deleted or modified your post. My question is why the hell would you post something like that? That would be like me telling everybody how to make a pipe bomb or a tennis ball bomb (which I do know how to make). Quote:
![]() I do alot of dumb things, but why would you hold a can filled with an explosive substance, spraying into a flame on a tiny stick in which you are holding??? You do know you can buy a propane torch and get the same effect, without the posibility of it exploding and taking off your hand. Or burning your hand because your fingers are inches away from an open flame.. |

Propane, on the other hand, is a product of crude oil distillation. Propane has the nice property that, when you compress it, it condenses into a liquid. This means that it is much easier to store in a tank than natural gas, which does not easily compress. Like my photography? Buy some here.... |
