Question about http link

I have been able to create the button, place it where I need it and name it, text label it and all in xml, just can not get the maki script written to direct peeps to the url I want it to take them. I can not be told how to do it and get much from it. I am more of a hands on kind of learner, I can watch someone do something, and then be able to do it, but to follow verbal or written directions, it don't seem to happen very often. Now if someone gives me a script to fit my skin, I then can just add it to my current files to make it all work right..?
