Winamp 5.09 contacts www.winamp.com/bin/channels.txt - How to turn it OFF ?

All 5.08 were configured to "no internet connection" and not to contact anyone in the internet for anything.

Winamp 5.09 contacts www.winamp.com/bin/channels.txt - Currently it contains five channel infos, like:

<channel cfileEntry="radio_show_radio" libPrompt="SHOUTcast Radio" prefsWindetcetcetcetcetcetcetc.

That fact that I cannot turn it of is VERY annoying, I feel like I got spyware installed although the captured packets show that it does not do something like that.

Worst of all: If the firewall blocks there requests, Winamp STARTUP IST DELAYED BY 4 SECONDS !!!!

Please, how can this stupid thing be turned off ? There is no such option, I hope that I don't have to have to hack winamp.exe to point to 127.0.0.1 instead of www.winamp.com, or to use an older version.

Hexdump of the interesting first packed (without syn/ack etc, ethereal is a nice tool):

There will be an option to disable that in the next release, 5.901. Due out soon now.

well if it's turned off, we wouldn't be able to get shoutcast channel info tho right? or will it act as it does in 5.08e when disabled, where it gets channel info only when it's asked for?

and what's up with the version number change? is it due to the mostly new development team?

Drewbar meant to say 5.091, being a quick successor of 5.09.

The option to disable the check will be in the Media Library prefs, tab Online Media, under the Modify Preferences button. I like the idea of being able to refresh manually (eg. by right-clicking Online Media in left pane in ML), don't know if something like that will be implemented.

If you're bored go here or, if the boredom is more serious, here.

No. In 5.091, you'll still be able to manually refresh the views that are already listed (currently: Shoutcast Radio, Shoutcast TV, Winamp Music, Winamp Video, AOL Video), via clicking the Refresh button within said view(s).

But if you uncheck: "Prefs > Media Library > Online Media tab > Modify Preferences: Look for new Online Media channels on exit", then you will be stuck with those same 5 views forever, and will NEVER receive any updated views/channel listings.
