er.. HELP??
ok lets start off with my comp has recently been returned to me after being fixed, so i downloaded the new winamp, and tried to change the skin. the skins i used to have from the winamp3 version have gone, i presume the 5 version wiped them off *great!* so i went to download some new ones, i've got three clasic skins, and i've placed them into the skins file on the winamp5 file. but when i try to change the skin the new skind dont show up!
do i need to do something, or is there somewhere specific they need to be in order to work? please help. my email is available if i'm not here to get the replies. thank you ~KAT~ |

The .wsz files have to be in the skins directory in the Winamp Directory. Default is "C:/Program Files/Winamp/Skins".

they are in the skins directory. however i've notised that the little icon next to the skin name is that one with the little coloured boxes in it. sorry i'm not very good with computers...
but i think it's the icon i get when the computer cant open or use something. do i need to have a program or something to be able to read the icons? ~KAT~ |

Try this:
Go to your skins directory. Now in that window go to "Tools" on the menu bar and click "Folder Options" (this assumes you use Windows XP or something like it). Click the "View" tab and in the list of options, uncheck the one that says "Hide extensions for known file types." Then click OK. That will let you see the file extension of the files (a few letters after a dot at the end of each filename). I'm *guessing* that you will see the files have the extension ".sz" (a problem that has been known to occur after switching from Winamp3 to Winamp5). Change that to ".wsz" and they should work. If it doesn't say .sz, come back here and let us know the results of that. |

I discovered that I don't have to put the skin in the skins directory with Winamp5. Just double-click the .wsz file located anywhere and it installs itself!
Every Windows installation I touch, first thing I do is turn on file extensions! I HATE Windows defaults with a passion!! |
