I have memory problems?

I know that i haven't went to see a doctor or etc., I think i have a memory problem: cyanide was suggested (...), i keep forgetting to important things like e-mails, or load a certain thing and i can't remember anything over 7 characters long for more than ten minutes or remember numbers longer than 2 chars long e.g. 949696693

-getting to the point...

my symptons include having alot of trouble remembering things and a friend also suggested i may have ADHD, is this normal to forget things this frequently? but i have a really good long-term memory.... just take my grammar for example

i am not normal, no really.

i wouldn't use your grammar as an example of good memory if you start a sentance with "i know i haven't went" but anyhoo, maybe rather than sitting worrying about it, why not just go to the doctors? its not gonna do any harm, right?

I have crazy memory. My science class was once given 1 minute to learn a string of 20 random letters, most got around 10-12 but I got all 20, along with 2 others.

The thing is, I can still remember them:

AFSJMRACTPFSJTUVXDUR

There is nothing notable or memorable apart from the RAC being a motoring association in the UK, yet I can still remember it

I have ADHD, and not as much of a memory problem as thinking of too many different things to remember things like that. I often will say "I need to get such and such from my email", and by the time I open my account up I've forgotten what I was supposed to do

yeah, i'm back.

Conceive a sphere constructed with the earth at it center, and imagine it surface to pass through Sirius, which is 8.8 light years distant from the earth... Then imagine this enormous sphere to be so packed with microbes that in every cubic millimeter millions and millions of these diminutive animalcula are present. Now conceive these microbes to be unpacked and so distributed singly along a straight line that every two microbes are as far distant from each other as Sirius is from us... Conceive the long line thus fixed by all the microbes at the diameter of a circle, and imagine its circumference to be calculated by multiplying it diameter by Pi to 100 decimal places. Then, in the case of a circle of this enormous magnatude even, the circumference so calculated would not vary from the real circumference by a millionth part of a millimeter.

This example will suffice to show that the calculation of Pi to 100 or 500 decimal places is wholly useless.

No need to bother with Doctors - all they will do is stuff you full of crappy useless drugs...

Take up something like Ti-Chi or Yoga, and especially concentrate on Yogic Breathing. Most ADD/ADHD is due to 'Over Breathing' or 'Hyper-Ventilation', (Look at the word 'Hyper' - it explains it most succinctly!).

Seriously most people don't even know that they are Hyper-Ventalating and it's very common in people who live in large towns/citys, where, Buteyko studies have shown a very high propensity towards these conditions.

Ti-Chi will help you discipline yourself, as will Yoga. The Yogic breathing exercises will help calm you and order your thoughts in a more constructive and orderly fashion.

Also, review your diet and ensure you are getting enough of what is known as 'Omega 3' oils, essential for brain function! Mackeral, Sardines are the best sources but they are present in (Good) meat products, as I say though fish is far superior. Another good sorce of essential 'Omega 3' oils is 'Hemp Oil' available from most decent Health/Organic food outlets.

Will do you much more good than any drugs that a doctor will give you.

nb: Same goes for those who suffer a lot from Depression. Main cause is a lack of those omega 3 oils I mentioned but also a very low 'Co-Enzyme Q10' deficiency. Co-Enzyme Q10 is essential for the normal functioning of ALL cells. A cell, no matter what can be deficient in any other form of mineral, vitamin or enzyme and still function all be it at a very poorly reduced rate.
Remove co-enzyme Q10 and that cell will not function! This applys to all cells be it a muscle cell or liver or heart or eye cell - no matter what it is, without co-enzyme Q10 that cell will just not function. Again, supplements are available in capsule form from any decent Health/Organic food store.

In fact without massive doses of co-enzyme Q10 given to a liver prior to removal from a donor, liver transplants (Or most transplants for that matter) would be impossible!

its not a problem that you can only remember 7 chars at once. its perfectly normal. your short term memory can hold between 5 and 9 'chunks' of information. chunking is the process of associating bits of info. if i asked you to remember the letters a s n p a l n i a t b for 10 minutes you probably couldnt. if you could, it would be with great difficulty. but if i told you to remember the phrase 'banana split' you wouldnt have a problem. same letters, right? but with the letters you have to remember each individual letter. but with the prase you understand two words which are then associated with one object.

you can see how chunking and association work to expand the effective size of your short term memory.

missyob made me post this.

I don't think there's anything wrong with your memory...I think it's your brain functions that are to blame above all...

Check for tumors, or something, or ask your parents if they've ever dropped you on your head when you were a child...

you have Asthma? Buteyko Breath Therapy - A cure is available. Recent clinical tests in Glasgow showed that an Asthma suffere using an inhalor a minimum of 4-5 times daily on learning breath therapys such as this were reduced to zero use within 3-6mnths! There after the ability to lead completely normal lives.

Check it out if you don't want to be on inhalors the rest of your life along with a progressive worsening of your symptons associated with there use.

quote by The British Thoracic Society after the above report was published

Quote:
After this study, it shows that we have to radically rethink over 200 years of medical research!
Seriously - check it out! and it's not just for Asthma sufferers. I learnt it myself about 3 years ago. I used to get colds and flu regularly at least 2-3 times a year. I have had niether for well over 2 years now. I also feel much more healthier and have a lot more energy and overall well being.

I don't mind messin but when I'm seriously trying to help the guy with an answer to a very debilitaing and often very misrepresented illness by standard medical practice, I think this is a bit stupid. Get a life whoever the Mod was or maybe follow some of the above advice. Seems your brain could probably do with a good dose of Omega 3 oils itself!

smeggers, sounds interesting. what about people that have an inhaler, but can get away without using it most of the time? (i only use my inhaler if i find i'm coughing a lot, my athsma often seems more like a smokers cough, or i find myself clearing my throat often (ie, every 10 minutes or so))

Mark, the guy who owns that site I posted actually comes from your area lol

But yeah thats great if your using your inhalor as minimal as possible. Studyies have shown that a lot of it becomes psychological.
Anyway - Charlie Mcguire, (who owns the site), often runs seminars and courses up in Belfast. Contact him through the site or PM me for details.

Theres reams of material in google now on Professor Buteyko, the guy who discovered this treatment, (he was russian btw - sadly, he passed away a couple of years ago).

He also showed that his method not only cured completely most breathing related illness's but also alleviated the symptoms, (And in doing so slowed there progress), of over 150 very serious illness's.
Emphysemia, Multiple Sclerosis, Heart Disease to name just a couple...

In fact, Charlie was featured on our national news channel not so long back in the treatment of a 67 year local man. This gentleman had been given weeks to live by conventional medicine and was bed ridden.
At the interview, some 6mnths later, he was seen walking with the aid of sticks, this, after he was basically taken home from hospital with only weeks to live!
The gentleman followed an extensive course of 'Re-Training' in how to breathe correctly by charlie and within a dew weeks was slowly getting up and about.

An added part of the course is nutritional and dietry needs. All to often, a lot of what is wrong is caused by what we eat. A vicous circle is then implemented which becomes very habitiual to break out of.

Buteyko Breath therapy also helps reduce Obesity as well via the use of the breathing technique and following a balanced nutritional diet. A lot of 'Hyper - Ventalation is caused by the enviroment in which you live. Thats why, the illness is more prevalent in large towns and cities because the air quality is very poor. Your body is (wrongly) trying to compensate by 'Over Breathing' and hence 'Hyper Ventilating'.

The problem then just feeds itself. Heres an easy observation for you. Next time your out and about, just watch to see how many people are breathing through there mouths instead of there nose. It's quite simple to spot, most have a very sallow, wan complexion, you'll notice there sort of 'Panting' and there mouths are open. Most will have Asthma or other breathing related difficultys, suffer quite a lot from blocked noses and Flu/Colds.

As I said, I can personally testify that I only get the odd sniffle now that lasts a few hours at most. Before that would have become a full blown cold lasting a few days.

Mind, it's upto the individual because you do have to work at it and it's bloody hard at first to 'Breathe Less' but the benefits are well worth it overall healthwise in the end.

actually, i dont use mine because I'm too lazy to do so. If my athsma gets bad (because of hayfever or in winter) i start taking it again.

I have dreadful memory, I've just managed to set things up so that I (generally) don't need it. My long-term is pretty good, once stuff is in there, which takes a little more time.

Mild? Bahaha noob!

I can usually remember 2-3 digits for a few minutes, but no more. I was supposed to remember the 5 digit code for my tire when I was going to go get it replaced, soon as I walked up to the littl ebooth to order it, I had already forgotten it.

I don't remember anything from before I was about 10 years old (15 now), sometimes i remember bits and pieces.. kind of sucks

yeah, i'm back.

i have an audiographic memory, this means that :
1. if i hear you voice often enough i can reproduce it in my head saying things you've never said to me, accurately.
2. if i remember hearing something i can probably hear it again inside my mind
3. for some reason i cannot produce "mental pictures" with my mind

and no i'm not trying to brag or anything, my memory sucks really, i wouldn't be able to remember a string of 20 letters given even 3 minutes of time to memorize them.
